St Luke’s Home Annual 5K Run – Thursday September 8th – 7pm

Launched last year, this was the 2nd time round for the St Luke’s Memorial 5K and what an event it was! The numbers taking part went from 320 last year to 463 this year and despite a small bit of rain just before kick-off, everyone finished and seemed to really enjoy the occasion.

Cork’s premier runners lent their support, with Alan O’Shea winning the overall male category in a time of 15 minutes, 15 seconds and Sinead O Connor the overall female in a time of 16 minutes, 39 seconds – Very well done to them!

Huge thanks must go to our sponsors for this event! Local company RCI who have for the last 2 years put up the overall prize of a week’s Holiday Accommodation in Europe for winning male and female. RCI also steward the event, give a generous cheque and entered in their numbers! On this occasion RDJ co-sponsored with their contribution funding the really generous goody bag given to all who participated! Thanks also to Welch Sports for sponsoring the 2nd prize and for the 20% discount voucher and to QCafe and John Buckley Sports for the remaining prizes. Also thanks to Kate Cowhig Recruitment for sponsoring the refreshments. The sponsors really help to make this a successful event, their support means that all the costs associated with the Run are covered, which means 100% of the entry fee goes to support the Therapy and Activity programme at the Home.

It was great to see lots of St Luke’s staff, relatives of residents and volunteers out running and walking and enjoying themselves, this means a lot in terms of camaraderie and teambuilding!.

In essence this Run is all about remembering all associated with the Home down through the years, celebrating their lives and reflecting on them in a positive and happy way.

We are already looking forward to next year!

We’ll have photos later but in the meantime, the full results can be seen here… https://stlukes5k.wordpress.com/results/2016-results/
